The ICFP is comprised of two main groups: the board of directors advisors and groupings of professionals panels. The board of directors advisors group has been founded with three primary purposes:
- Application and Standardization - This group evaluates potential candidates and maintains instruction and member information.
- Ethics and Professional Responsibility Committee
- Research and Development - This group evaluates new software and hardware for suitability in forensic examinations.
Each of the board of director advisors serves as a director to the panel associated with the different forensic disciplines. Each of these disciplines is comprised of a volunteer group of professionals that is willing to contribute to the standardization and evaluation of that particular discipline. A discipline is associated with a certain technical expertise in a field. For example working with the Linux file system is a discipline area.
The board of director advisors for the Institute of Computer Forensic Professionals is Compromised of professionals in the field, a complete list of the current members can be located below. The chief executive officer for the ICFP is Richard Kipper, a well respected philanthropist who has led such organizations as the Alzheimer Foundation. Mr. Kipper brings an outside, non-biased view of the field of digital forensics that is essential in shaping the long needed standards for the industry.
For the members of the ICFP there are currently two levels of membership in the organization, Affiliate and Associate. Each level is based on where a particular member is in the field.
The Affiliate level is designed for active practioner in the field and is our first level available for practioners. In the future the ICFP plans on adding additional levels of membership based on qualifications such as time in the field, certification, practical experience, etc.
The second level of membership is the Associate level of membership. This level of membership is for all those currently interested in exploring the field of digital forensics, but are not an active practioner in the field.
