Certification Process

The certification process of the ICFP is broken into two areas, a written examination and a practical examination.

The written examination is designed to test the member’s knowledge of the core theory and information about the discipline as well as the associated handling and forensics procedures for that discipline. The written examination is multiple choice and must be administered at a proctored event or via an approved ICFP proctor. A score of 85% or higher is required to have a passing score on the certification. All tests will be destroyed after scoring as according to the procedures of the organization.

The practical examination will only be administered to those that pass the written examination. It will be issued in the form of a generic drive image file to the qualifying individuals with a time limit associated to complete a comprehensive examination and processing of the image. The time for each practical examination is 1 year from the mailing date of the image.

With both examinations they are limited to work done by the qualifying examiner and cannot be done in group or in process of other individuals.

Requirements

Only active members of the ICFP with current membership dues are qualified to take the ICFP certification examinations. A full resume must be submitted with your certification for record with the ICFP.
